Security tips

Keeping your accounts safe is a shared job between you and the bank. These tips come from our Electronic Banking Consumer Awareness Program, in line with BSP rules.

Disclaimer: These security tips are suggestions to clients and do not constitute a representation that adherence will prevent any breach of confidential information.

ATM security measures

  • Use familiar, well-lit ATMs; avoid poorly lit or hidden machines.
  • Have your card ready before approaching the ATM.
  • Do not use ATMs that appear tampered with; report them to the bank.
  • Memorize your PIN; never disclose it or write it on the card; avoid obvious PINs.
  • Beware of shoulder surfers; shield the keypad.
  • If the ATM misbehaves, cancel and use another; report the problem.
  • Secure card and cash before leaving; keep receipts and reconcile statements.
  • Do not let others use your card; report loss or theft immediately.

Credit card measures

  • Never disclose credit card information casually. A number alone can be abused.
  • Sign cards when received; secure PINs like ATM PINs.
  • Photocopy front and back and store copies securely to speed cancellation if needed.
  • Carry only cards you need; never leave them unattended; do not use as ID.
  • Do not give account numbers over the phone unless dealing with a reputable institution.
  • Watch for “swipe and theft” / skimmers; keep documents and statements secure (consider shredding).
  • Notify the bank of address changes; open billing statements promptly and reconcile monthly.
  • Report lost or stolen cards immediately to 24/7 Customer Service.

Mobile banking measures

  • Do not disclose your Mobile Banking PIN (MPIN) to anyone.
  • Regularly change the MPIN.
  • Do not let others use a phone enrolled in mobile banking; report loss or theft immediately.

Internet / e-banking awareness

  • Keep records: Regularly check transaction history and statements for unauthorized activity; notify the bank promptly.
  • Correct, secure websites: Prefer https and a padlock; enter URLs directly; beware of look-alike sites; avoid unsafe redirects.
  • Protect your computer: Firewall, updated antivirus, OS/browser patches; never open unfamiliar downloads or attachments.
  • Do not leave sessions open: Log off when unattended; clear cache/history after banking.
  • Read privacy disclosures: Understand how sites use data before sharing personal financial information.
